Athens Epidaurus Festival Expands Its Global Reach

The renowned Athens Epidaurus Festival, a cornerstone of Greek culture, is embarking on an ambitious expansion into the Asian market.

With its iconic performances of ancient Greek drama, the festival aims to foster cultural exchange and strengthen international ties.

In October, Artistic Director Katerina Evangelatos and General Director Ioannis Kaplanis represented the festival at significant arts events in South Korea and China. Evangelatos participated in the Performing Arts Market Seoul, promoting Greece’s vibrant performing arts scene. She engaged with cultural organizations from around the world, exploring potential collaborations and partnerships.

During her visit to Shanghai, Evangelatos spoke at the China Shanghai International Performing Arts Festival, highlighting Greece’s role in introducing audiences to innovative interpretations of classical Greek drama. She also discussed opportunities for joint productions, residencies, and masterclasses with Chinese counterparts.

General Director Ioannis Kaplanis also attended the China Shanghai International Arts Festival, emphasizing the power of the arts to bridge cultural divides and address global challenges. He underscored the festival’s commitment to sustainability, accessibility, and technological innovation through European research programs.
