Crete is extending its tourism season this year, with several resorts planning to remain open until the end of November and some even welcoming guests through December. Manolis Tsakalakis, president of the Crete Hoteliers' Association, noted that increased demand from British tour operators, including TUI and Alltours, is driving this change. As a result, popular areas like Rethymno and Heraklion will see a boost in tourist flows, providing economic benefits to the island during the typically quieter months.
Manolis Tsakalakis, president of the Crete Hoteliers' Association, told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency that the decision reflects both the impact of a milder climate and increased demand, especially from British tour operators.
According to Tsakalakis, major operators like TUI and Alltours have extended their flights to Crete through November, moving some peak-season airline bookings to early spring and late fall. In the popular regions of Rethymno and Heraklion, several resorts that typically close by mid-autumn will remain open, which could significantly boost off-season tourist flows.
With year-round hotels in major cities and growing interest from European travellers, Crete is capitalising on a lengthened season, offering more opportunities for both tourists and the island’s economy.
