Five men were arrested on Monday in Western Attica on suspicion of being part of a criminal network involved in the illegal possession, distribution, and sale of weapons and explosives, police reported on Tuesday.

The suspects face charges related to the manufacturing and possession of explosives, as well as violations of laws concerning explosives, drugs, flares, and antiquities.

The arrests followed a coordinated raid by authorities, during which searches were conducted at three homes and two basements in the same region. During the operation, police uncovered a large cache of weapons and explosives.

Among the items seized were:

  • 25 military-grade explosives
  • 60 kilograms of ammonium dynamite
  • Four explosive devices
  • Seven coils of flame-retardant rope
  • Two detonators
  • 5,925 cartridges of various calibres, primarily for military use
