Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni met with UK Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Sir Chris Bryant in London on Tuesday to discuss a major boost in tourism cooperation, along with cultural issues such as the return of the Parthenon Marbles.
The ministers plan to establish a new Memorandum of Cooperation on tourism, which is expected to be formally endorsed by the prime ministers of both nations. This agreement aims to deepen tourism ties and encourage cultural exchange between Greece and the UK.
During their talks, Kefalogianni raised Greece's longstanding appeal for the return of the Parthenon Marbles, stressing that it involves the reintegration of essential elements of the Parthenon, a global cultural symbol. Sir Chris Bryant, a strong supporter of Greek culture, recognised the importance of the issue and noted the challenges posed by the British Museum's legal constraints. He assured Kefalogianni that the topic will be given priority in future discussions between the nations’ leaders.
Kefalogianni extended an invitation to Sir Bryant to visit Greece, fostering further opportunities for collaboration.
