More than 600 people attended the opening of DIVA! Italian Glamour in Fashion Jewellery, including authorities, representatives of the Greek cultural world, professionals, and lovers of Italian fashion and creativity.
The exhibition, which began its journey in Abu Dhabi in 2021, arrives in Athens after touching various capitals in different countries around the world, from South Africa to Iraq and from China to Ethiopia.
Curated by Prof. Alba Cappellieri, Professor of Jewelry Design at the Milan Polytechnic and curator of the Vicenza Jewelry Museum, the exhibition highlights the excellence of Italian fashion jewellery and is contributing to promoting the Made in Italy brand globally.
The 200 pieces of jewellery in the collection, representing some of the best expressions of Italian craftsmanship, will be on display in Athens until December 31st.
The exhibition, illustrated at yesterday’s opening by co-curator Beatrice Rossato, explores the history of Italian jewellery from the 1950s to the present and highlights how these creations reflect style, values, and the evolution of society.
The exhibits include creations of well-known Italian brands, such as Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Miu Miu, and Valentino, as well as works by independent stylists and designers. This underscores how the quality of Italian fashion jewellery is linked, above all, to creativity, craftsmanship, and innovation.
In his welcome greeting to the guests, Ambassador Cuculi noted: “This exhibition, strongly supported by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, has been successfully touring the world for almost three years. I am really happy that we can now present this significant testimony of the Italian art of Fashion Jewelry also to the Greek public. To do it here, in a true temple of this art such as the Ilias Lalaounis Jewelry Museum, and in a country like Greece, which we all consider the motherland of the very idea of beauty and harmony, is a great honour. And it is at the same time a wonderful opportunity, I think, to strengthen the fruitful dialogue between the two very rich craftsmanship traditions of our countries.”
Ioanna Lalaouni, Director of the Ilias Lalaounis Jewellery Museum, emphasised in her introduction the importance of the exhibition’s presence in the museum.
In her words, it highlights the long history and tradition of the neighbouring country and testifies to the cultural importance of Italian jewellery and fashion, as well as its dominant role in the fields of education, design, production, and material culture.
