Taste Atlas: Greek Soup Among the World's Top 3

The traditional Greek soup, magiritsa, which is customarily eaten after the Resurrection service on Holy Saturday, has earned a prestigious ranking.

Batchoy, a noodle-based soup, has been declared the world's best offal soup by the online food and travel guide, TasteAtlas. Among the top three soups on this list is a Greek entry!

"The hearty batchoy is a popular Filipino soup consisting of pork offal, chicken or beef broth, and fresh round egg noodles. Generously seasoned with shrimp paste and (occasionally) soy sauce, the soup is typically finished with pork cracklings, fried garlic, and a raw egg," explains TasteAtlas.

Batchoy, believed to have originated in the La Paz region, is the only Filipino dish included in this ranking of soups primarily made with offal or internal organs.

Greece, too, can boast a renowned soup: Magiritsa ranks among the world's three most delicious offal soups, according to Taste Atlas. The latest list from the well-known culinary guide includes a total of 39 types of soup from every corner of the planet.

Taking first place is the Filipino Batchoy. In second place comes the Turkish "Kelle paça çorbası," featuring lamb or goat parts, onions, and salt.

Following closely behind is Greece's magiritsa, traditionally consumed after the Resurrection service on Holy Saturday. After the Lenten fast, it's the first meal containing meat. It typically includes vegetables, dill, lamb offal, and rice. However, many people cook it year-round.
