Ampelokipi Bombing: Greek investigators discover link to Pakistan

Two cell phones were found in the rubble of an apartment in central Athens that was completely destroyed.

Anti-Terrorism Unit discovered that the residents of the bombed apartment on Arkadias Street in Ampelokipi communicated with nationals of Pakistan.

On October 31, a powerful explosion destroyed a third-floor apartment, resulting in the death of a 36-year-old man believed to have been assembling an explosive device. A 33-year-old woman was severely injured and remains hospitalised under police guard.

Two other individuals have been arrested.

All three defendants face a range of terrorism-related charges, including felonies for forming and participating in a terrorist organisation, committing terrorist acts, and causing an explosion with intent to harm.

Evidence collected so far includes two pistols, ammunition, mobile phones, and other digital devices, all of which have been seized for further examination.

The two cell phones were operational and were allegedly used by the deceased man.

The police discovered that both phone connections were registered in the names of people from Pakistan, News Beast reported. The connections were opened from the middle of the year until October 31, when the explosion occurred.

From these mobile phones, it emerged that the deceased and the injured made communications with two other telephone connections, which were made for the organisation of the bomb attack they were preparing.

The declassification of the communications shows that these two phone connections were to Syrian and Pakistani nationals.

Prepaid phones are activated in the name of a foreigner, not with their real details, and of an unknown residence. In this way, Greece’s National Intelligence Service is less likely to detect the real users. They are in demand by criminals, prisoners, and terrorists.
