The incident began with a phone call from an unknown man, who falsely introduced himself as the director of the General Hospital of Serres. He told the woman that her daughter had been severely injured in a car crash and required urgent surgery. Exploiting the elderly woman’s panic, the scammer convinced her to gather all the money in her house and drop it from her balcony in a bag to "save" her daughter.
An accomplice, a woman waiting below, collected the money and fled. Shortly afterward, the victim's daughter arrived at the house, revealing the scam.
Authorities are investigating and warning residents to be cautious of similar schemes targeting vulnerable individuals.
