37th Panorama of European Cinema Set for November 21-27 in Athens

The 37th Panorama of European Cinema will take place from November 21 to 27, showcasing an exciting lineup of Greek premieres, international tributes, special screenings, and masterclasses across four venues in Athens: Trianon, Newman, Studio New Star Art Cinema, and the Hellenic American Union.

The event will open with Alexandros Avranas’ ‘Quiet Life’, which premiered internationally at the “Horizons” section of the 81st Venice Film Festival. Avranas and members of the film’s production team will attend the screening.

Sarah Bernhardt, La Divine

The festival will close with the Greek premiere of Guillaume Nicloux’s ‘Sarah Bernhardt, La Divine’. Distributor Zinos Panagiotidis will be honoured with an award for his contributions to Greek cinema during the closing ceremony.

Festivalgoers can also enjoy three highly anticipated premieres: Emanuel Parvu’s ‘Three Kilometers to the End of the World’ (Romania), Saule Bliuvaite’s ‘Toxic’ (Lithuania), and Robert Guédiguian’s ‘And the Party Goes On’ (France/Italy).

In addition to the premieres, the Panorama will present tributes to influential figures in global cinema, including Greek-American director John Cassavetes, French filmmaker Claude Sautet, American producer Roger Corman, Greek actress Betty Livanou, and director Stelios Charalambopoulos, who will also receive an award for his lifetime achievements.

Marking the 100th anniversary of Franz Kafka’s death, the festival will commemorate the iconic writer with screenings of Kafka-inspired films such as Orson Welles’ ‘The Trial’. Attendees can also participate in masterclasses by fantasy film producer Loris Curci and cinematographer George Arvanitis, as well as events hosted by FIPRESCI, the international film critics’ organisation.
