Amazon invests in three Greek wind farms to power its operations and support Greece's renewable energy goals. The projects, developed by Aer Soléir, will generate clean energy equivalent to powering nearly 200,000 homes and create hundreds of jobs. This investment aligns with Amazon's Climate Pledge and Greece's National Energy and Climate Plan.
Amazon has strengthened its commitment to renewable energy in Greece by investing in three new utility-scale wind farms developed by Aer Soléir.
The power purchase agreements (PPAs) will supply clean energy to the grid, supporting both Amazon's operations and Greece's ambitious renewable energy targets.
The three projects, Vermio North & South (Western and Central Macedonia) and Koukouras & Mesokorfi (Peloponnese region), are already under construction and slated to begin generating power in 2026.
Combined, they are expected to generate enough clean energy to power the equivalent of almost 200,000 Greek homes annually. This energy will be fed directly into the grid, benefiting not only Amazon but also local businesses, public institutions, and households.
These investments contribute significantly to Greece's National Energy and Climate Plan, which aims to source over 80% of its electricity from renewables by 2030. For Amazon, the projects align with its Climate Pledge, a commitment to achieve net-zero carbon emissions across its operations by 2040.
The wind farms are also creating substantial economic opportunities. The Vermio project alone has already created over 100 construction jobs, with an anticipated peak of 300 roles. The long-term operation of the farms is expected to further support employment and economic growth in the region.
Lindsay McQuade, EMEA Director of Energy at AWS, emphasized the importance of these projects in Amazon's European decarbonization strategy, stating, "These three new wind farms in Greece mark an important milestone…and add to the growing number of renewable energy projects we’ve supported in the country." With over 180 wind and solar projects across more than twelve European countries, Amazon is actively driving the transition to carbon-free energy.
Aer Soléir, a Dublin-based developer of sustainable infrastructure, is investing over €500 million in Greek wind projects, backed by investors Quantum Capital Group and 547 Energy, along with project finance partners National Bank of Greece and the European Union’s Recovery and Resilience Facility.
Aer Soléir CEO and founding partner Andy Kinsella expressed pride in contributing to Greece's renewable energy goals and the partnership with Amazon.
