49-Year-Old Educator Arrested Over Explosives and Arms Cache in Athens

On Thursday afternoon, officers from the Special Crimes of Violence Directorate arrested a 49-year-old man in connection with a warrant related to a cache of arms and explosives discovered in the Pangrati area of Athens. The discovery was made on Tuesday by the storage space's owner, who promptly notified the authorities.

Information suggests that the arrested individual was responsible for renting the storage space within the apartment building. The man works as a literature and language teacher at a tutoring center (frontistirio) and has no prior criminal record.

The storage area contained an assortment of weapons and explosives, including three hand grenades, a submachine gun, six firearms with accessories, 25 detonators, and 10 kilograms of explosives—7.5 kilograms of which were ammonia dynamite. A bomb squad was called in to safely manage the situation.
