Producer prices of olive oil in Greece have fallen recently, while the new crop harvest has not yet finished.
The prices:
Laconia: From €6.50 on Friday to €6.30 on Saturday.
Crete: From €7.50 10 days ago to €5 on Sunday.
Messinia: From €6.80 the previous week to €6 euros this weekend.
A tin of olive oil is 17 litres and its final price depends on the price per litre. Based on the producer prices quoted, if the producer price is between €5 and €7/litre, then a tin will cost around €85 to €119 to produce.
The final price is affected by the quality, the region of origin, and whether it is purchased directly from the producer or through commercial networks. Supermarket prices remain high, ranging from €7.25 to €16.20 per litre.
