China Opens Doors to Tourism: Visa-Free Travel for 38 European Countries and More

China is significantly boosting its tourism industry by expanding its visa-free travel program. Starting November 30, 2024, citizens of 38 European countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Greece, can enjoy visa-free travel to China for up to 30 days. This move simplifies travel and encourages international tourism.

European Countries Granted Visa-Free Access:

Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, the Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.

Expanded Visa-Free Access for Other Countries:

China's visa-free program extends beyond Europe. As of November 2024, several other countries enjoy this benefit:

  • 15-day visa-free travel: Brunei, Japan, Singapore
  • 30-day visa-free travel: Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mauritius, Seychelles, Barbados, Bahamas, Belarus, Fiji, Grenada, Haiti, San Marino, Suriname, Tunisia, Indonesia, Ukraine, Vanuatu
  • 60-day visa-free travel (group tourism only): Russia
  • Unlimited visa-free entry: China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, China's Macao Special Administrative Region

  • Simplified Payments: The Shanghai Pass and WeChat Pay's acceptance of foreign credit cards streamline transactions for international visitors.
  • Visa-Free Transit: 72-hour or 144-hour visa-free transit options are available in major cities like Beijing and Shanghai for U.S. and EU citizens.
  • Visa-Free Cruise Arrivals: Visa-free entry is granted at designated ports for cruise passengers.
