Great Britain's basketball team lost to Greece 77-67 in a crucial EuroBasket 2025 qualifier, failing to repeat their recent comeback victory against the same opponent. The loss puts GB's qualification hopes in jeopardy as the group stage nears its end.
Despite a strong effort, GB couldn't replicate their previous success. Greece maintained the lead for a majority of the game, heading into halftime up 40-32. Panagiotis Kalaitzakis and Kostas Papanikolaou both topped the scoring charts for Greece with 14 points apiece. Myles Hesson led the scoring for Great Britain with 14 points, followed by Quin Ellis with 13.
This result shuffles the group standings, placing Greece at the top with seven points. Both the Czech Republic (second) and Great Britain (third) are tied with six points, while the Netherlands trail in fourth with five. With two games remaining for each team, the race for EuroBasket 2025 qualification remains tight.
The top three teams from each group will advance to the tournament, which will be co-hosted by Cyprus, Finland, Latvia, and Poland from August 27th to September 14th, 2025.
