Two individuals were arrested on Monday in Alimos during a police operation that uncovered a significant cache of 172 ancient artifacts.

Greek police revealed that the arrests were the culmination of an intelligence-led investigation. Law enforcement identified three apartments within the same building as the focus of their operation.

Subsequent searches of these apartments yielded a trove of historical treasures, dating back to various periods including the Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine eras. While the majority of the artifacts have been identified as protected cultural heritage, eight items have been earmarked for further examination by the Antiquities Authority.

The two suspects face charges related to violations of antiquities and cultural heritage protection laws. They have been presented before the prosecutor for legal proceedings.
