The Deputy Minister of Tourism of Cyprus, Costas Koumis, speaking at the 2nd Greece—Cyprus Summit — Advancing Together, said an air connection between Cyprus and India is possible.

According to the deputy minister, connectivity with India requires airline companies to equip aircraft they have ordered in a timely manner. Mr Koumis also said discussions have begun on direct air links with China and the US.

He made it clear, however, that no airline company will start flights to any country unless there are guarantees of profitability or other such indications.

Speaking about the extension of the tourist season in Cyprus, the Deputy Minister of Tourism said that October was included in the season for 2024.

“We have won October, which is no different from the summer months. It was the best October ever. We’ve won some weeks in November, just as we’ve won some weeks in March. Cyprus is moving forward,” said the Deputy Minister.

Finally, Mr. Koumis referred to the similarities and differences of tourism in Cyprus and Greece.

“For both countries, tourism is a very important pillar in the development of the economy. The contribution of tourism in Greece exceeded 19% in 2023. In Cyprus in the same year, it reached 12.9%, and it is estimated that in 2024 it will rise to 13.5%,” he said.
