Plans for the redevelopment of Faliro Bay were unveiled during an event hosted by the Attica Region, where Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis described it as an “iconic project” aimed at reconnecting Athens with its coastline.
At the heart of the initiative is Aenaon, a metropolitan park symbolizing continuity and timelessness, slated to open in 2028 with funding from the European Union.
The park is designed to become a Mediterranean landmark, providing open access for recreation, sports, and cultural events, while featuring sustainable and innovative infrastructure.
“This will be a showcase for the Mediterranean, offering spaces for entertainment, sports, and a connection to nature,” stated Mitsotakis.
Attica Regional Governor Giorgos Hardalias called the project “a day of vindication for Attica,” emphasizing the park’s role in transforming the area into a premier destination with sports facilities, swimming areas, and climate-resilient features like advanced drainage systems and green zones to improve the local microclimate.
The redevelopment, a joint effort between the Greek government and the EU, aims to serve as a model for sustainable coastal infrastructure and tourism development in the Mediterranean.
