From Poseidonos Avenue to Aspropyrgos, these projects can contribute to alleviating traffic chaos in the Greek capital.

Beyond the aesthetic upgrade, tunnels will decisively improve the daily movements of those living in Athens.

Some important projects are already being worked on. The most advanced is the Poseidonos Avenue undergrounding, estimated to be operational in 2026.

At the same time, there is the large urban tunnel of Ilioupoli, an extension of Kymi Avenue, and the opening of unused tunnels in Aspropyrgos and Faliro.

According to the News Auto, the project is 80% completed. It is believed that by 2025, it will have taken its final form.

The project that started in 2022 is set to be completed at the end of 2025, but it is estimated that the traffic will be opened to the public at the beginning of 2026 after the trial operation period.

Two tunnels exist in Faliro and Kallithea, which will be revealed when the promenade takes its final shape.

Implementing the Ilioupoli Tunnel project, as an extension of Attiki Odos, combined with the levelling of Vouliagmeni Avenue up to Ellinikon, will contribute the most to relieving traffic congestion, especially during peak hours.

The unused tunnels in Aspropyrgos are part of the plan for the Skaramanga Triple Junction, a project that the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport is getting going.

The tender is estimated to open in 2025, and upon its completion, the area's existing tunnels will also be operational.
