The Attica Regional Authority has announced an ambitious plan to address longstanding challenges in the Greek capital through 280 projects with a combined budget of €2.16 billion. These initiatives aim to improve urban living and enhance infrastructure in the region.
Of the total projects, 165 will prioritise three critical sectors: flood protection, expansion of green spaces and urban infrastructure, and improvements to welfare and social services.
A cornerstone of the initiative is Athens Talks, a newly launched platform that will facilitate dialogue among European, regional, and local officials, as well as academics and experts. The platform will serve as a hub for consultations and provide real-time updates on the progress of regional projects, ensuring transparency and accountability.
“There are many issues threatening the daily lives of Attica’s residents, many of which have remained unresolved for decades,” said Attica Regional Governor Nikos Hardalias at the launch of Athens Talks. “We are advocating for resources because Attica is entitled to projects that provide real and lasting solutions.”
The platform will also keep citizens informed by publishing detailed timelines of each project, highlighting progress and identifying any delays or setbacks.
The initiative reflects a focused effort to address the pressing needs of Athens residents while fostering collaboration and transparency in urban planning and development.
