Melbourne, Australia - Greek Australian Perry Kouroumblis, the prime suspect in the infamous 1977 Easey Street murders, has been extradited from Italy and is now in Australian custody. The 65-year-old is expected to face charges of murder and rape in connection with the brutal killings of Suzanne Armstrong and Susan Bartlett.
The two women were found stabbed to death in their Collingwood home, with their 16-month-old son unharmed. Kouroumblis was identified as a suspect through forensic evidence and investigative techniques.
Following his arrest in Rome, Kouroumblis was extradited to Australia. He is now expected to be interviewed by police and formally charged.
Bartlett’s 16-month-old son Gregory was found unharmed in his cot.
The 65-year-old Kouroumblis was filmed sporting a white beard and wavy grey hair as he flew back to Melbourne on a Qatar Airways flight late on Tuesday, flanked by Victoria Police officers.
Police had issued an INTERPOL red notice alert for Kouroumblis on two charges of murder and one of rape.
This development marks a significant breakthrough in one of Victoria's most notorious cold cases.
