Diplomatic sources regarding the situation in Syria report that the historic Greek community in Aleppo consists of around 50 families, all of whom are safe.
The Greek embassy in Damascus and the Greek honorary consulate in Aleppo maintain regular contact with the Greeks in Aleppo, advising them to remain where they are for the time being.
The same sources indicate that the Greek embassy has received 40 requests from Greeks and their families to be included in a displacement operation organized by the United Nations. The operation will see the evacuees transferred to Damascus.
The Crisis Management Unit of Greece’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs remains on standby to provide any necessary support. As emphasized by the diplomatic sources, Greece has consistently supported Christians in the Middle East, as it did during the Syrian civil war.
