Athens, Greece - Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece has expressed deep concern over the ongoing conflict in Syria, particularly for the Christian communities in the region.

In a recent statement, the Archbishop urged the Greek government to take diplomatic action to protect the interests of ethnic Greeks and Orthodox Syrians in the war-torn country. He also called on the international community to intervene and work towards a peaceful resolution.

“The Church encourages the Greek government, and in particular, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to undertake diplomatic and other humanitarian initiatives towards a normalization of the situation and to ensure the presence of ethnic Greeks and Orthodox Syrians in Syria,” the statement read.

Ieronymos emphasized the importance of preserving the Christian presence in the Middle East and called for international efforts to aid in its reconstruction.
