On Sunday, Greece will face unsettled weather with overcast skies and varying intensities of rainfall across different regions. Moderate rain and brief thunderstorms are expected in the Ionian and western mainland, while the eastern Aegean will see intensified rains by noon. Temperatures will slightly rise, and winds will transition from southwesterly to northwesterly. The new week will start with a temperature drop and persistent strong winds, with improvements expected by Tuesday.
In the Ionian Sea and the western mainland, moderate rainfall is anticipated, accompanied by brief thunderstorms, especially in Achaia and Ilia. These weather conditions are expected to diminish by midday. Conversely, rains will intensify in the eastern Aegean by noon, impacting the Cyclades and Dodecanese. Intermittent rain is also forecast for Macedonia, Thrace, and other Aegean islands, with light snowfall likely in the northern mountainous regions.
Temperatures will see a slight rise, anticipated to be between 12–15°C in northern Greece, 17–19°C in other mainland areas, and reaching up to 20°C in the southern Aegean.
In the Ionian region, winds will blow from the west-northwest at 4–5 Beaufort, while in the Aegean, southwesterly winds will transition to northwesterly by midday, reaching 6–7 Beaufort.
Athens is expected to be partly cloudy with a chance of light rain during the evening. Temperatures will range from 13–18°C, with southwesterly winds at 4–6 Beaufort, shifting to northwesterly up to 5 Beaufort by midday.
Overcast skies will be prevalent in Thessaloniki, with temperatures ranging from 8–14°C. Initially variable light winds will turn northerly, reaching 4–6 Beaufort later in the day.
Looking Ahead to the Week
The start of the new week will see a sharp drop in temperatures on Monday. Local rains are expected in the western coastal areas and the eastern mainland, with thunderstorms over the Aegean. Conditions will gradually improve from north to south from midday, with only Crete expected to experience rainfall by night.
High-altitude areas in mainland Greece, Evia, and Crete may see light snow. The cold will be pronounced, with daytime temperatures reaching 11–12°C in northern and eastern mainland regions and 14–16°C in the west and south. Strong winds will persist, especially in the Aegean, where northerly winds may reach 7–8 Beaufort.
By Tuesday, sunny skies are expected to return, with daytime temperatures rising to 15–17°C. However, frosty mornings are likely, and winds will weaken to 5–6 Beaufort, calming further by midday.
