Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis makes a landmark visit to Lebanon, highlighting Greece's commitment to enhancing diplomatic ties and supporting regional stability following the recent ceasefire and developments in Syria. Engaging with key Lebanese leaders, Mitsotakis aims to strengthen bilateral relations and reaffirm Greece's support for Lebanon's state institutions.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis embarks on a diplomatic mission to Lebanon, becoming the first European leader to visit following the recent ceasefire between Israel and Lebanese Hezbollah and ongoing developments in Syria.
The visit emphasizes Greece’s commitment to bolstering diplomatic relations in the Middle East and advocating for regional stability and peace.
Prime Minister Mitsotakis was received by his Lebanese counterpart, Najib Mikati, at the historic Grand Serail government palace. Their discussions focused on regional affairs and enhancing bilateral ties.
During his visit, Mitsotakis also met with Nabih Berri, the speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, at Ain el-Tineh, and earlier in the day, he conferred with the Patriarch of Antioch, John X, alongside the Metropolitan of Beirut, Elias.
Government sources revealed that Mitsotakis underscored the significance of maintaining the ceasefire, calling it “fragile but necessary” to avert further humanitarian crises.
His visit aligns with a broader initiative to promote Lebanon’s model of agreement as a potential blueprint for de-escalation efforts in Gaza.
“Greece and Lebanon share a long-standing friendship. In his meetings, the prime minister is expected to reaffirm Greece’s willingness to support the strengthening of Lebanon’s state institutions, including the Armed Forces, which are vital in upholding the ceasefire,” government sources indicated earlier.
