On Monday, authorities recovered two more migrant bodies, increasing the death toll to seven from a shipwreck near Greece’s southernmost island of Gavdos last Friday. The bodies were located in rocky areas to the northwest of the island.
The Greek Coast Guard conducted the recovery operations, while search efforts persist for over 30 missing individuals. One body was found at Agios Ioannis beach, and another on a nearby small beach.
The tragedy occurred Friday night, 12.5 nautical miles south of Gavdos, when a vessel carrying 82 Pakistani nationals capsized amid rough seas. Earlier, five bodies had been recovered, and 39 people were rescued. One survivor remains in critical condition at a hospital in Hania, Crete.
Authorities have identified a human trafficker among the deceased. The same night, four additional shipwrecks occurred in the region, with over 200 migrants rescued.
