Panathinaikos to Take 'Pavlos Giannakopoulos' Tournament to Australia in 2025

Panathinaikos FC aims to take a bold step in expanding its global presence. In September 2025, it plans to move the prestigious friendly tournament held in memory of the legendary player Pavlos Giannakopoulos to a new continent.

Following the event's tremendous success at Kallimarmaro, which attracted 42,000 spectators, the club is determined to elevate the “Pavlos Giannakopoulos” tournament and bring it abroad. Discussions are underway for the 7th edition of the tournament in Australia, with final preparations in progress.

The matches are set to take place in Sydney and Melbourne, where the Greek community is notably strong. Panathinaikos aims to strengthen ties with the Greek diaspora while showcasing Ergin Ataman's team, preparing for an exciting trip down under. The tournament will feature two Australian teams and Partizan, with Zeljko Obradovic, expected to attend, honouring his close relationship with Pavlos Giannakopoulos.

Pavlos Giannakopoulos, a key figure in Panathinaikos BC's history, left behind a significant legacy in Greek basketball and sports culture.
