Wave of Midnight Sledgehammer Attacks Target Supermarkets in Athens

In a series of coordinated attacks overnight, unknown assailants targeted supermarkets across various districts of Athens, causing significant damage.

The incidents occurred between Wednesday night and the early hours of Thursday, with stores in Zografou, Kypseli, Kaisariani, Glyfada, and Patissia among those affected.

According to a report by SKAI, six supermarkets were hit in quick succession during the early hours, between 1:00 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. The attackers used sledgehammers to shatter storefront windows and cause extensive damage.

In addition to the property damage, at least one ATM located at a supermarket was specifically targeted during the spree.

Greek authorities have launched an investigation to identify the perpetrators of the attacks, which appear to have been well-coordinated. No group has claimed responsibility for the vandalism, and police are currently reviewing surveillance footage and gathering evidence from the crime scenes.

This unusual series of attacks has raised concerns among business owners and residents, with many calling for heightened security measures to prevent further incidents.
