Eight migrants lost their lives off the coast of Rhodes this morning, Friday.
The Hellenic Coast Guard is conducting searches for any missing persons, while 18 people have been rescued.
The migrants fell into the sea from a speedboat 5 nautical miles east of Afantou, Rhodes.
According to the Coast Guard, the speedboat's operator lost control of the vessel while performing dangerous maneuvers in an attempt to evade a Coast Guard patrol boat.
