ATHENS, Greece Serverfarm, a leading data center operator, and the Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO) of Greece have announced a joint venture, Gemini, to build hyperscale data centers across Greece.

The initiative aims to address the growing demand for data center capacity from cloud providers, content delivery networks, and enterprises.

Gemini's initial project is a 130MW data center campus planned for the Greater Athens Area. This flagship development will serve as the foundation for a broader network of data centers throughout the country. The venture leverages Serverfarm's expertise in data center development and operation and IPTO's access to reliable and sustainable power infrastructure.

"Greece's strategic location makes it an ideal data gateway between continents, yet the market remains underserved," said Avner Papouchado, CEO and founder of Serverfarm. "Gemini combines Serverfarm's experience with IPTO's infrastructure capabilities to deliver high-quality, sustainable data center solutions, unlocking Greece's significant potential."

Gemini's data centers will prioritize energy efficiency and environmental sustainability through advanced cooling technologies and the utilization of renewable energy sources.

“Our goal is to meet the increasing needs of hyperscale clients, establish Athens as a major data center hub, and ultimately transform the digital landscape of the region," added Papouchado.

Manos Manousakis, CEO and Chairman of IPTO, emphasized the importance of the partnership for Greece's digital future. "IPTO is developing critical electricity and telecommunications infrastructure for Greece and beyond, interconnecting the future," he stated. "Our partnership with Serverfarm through Gemini will deliver world-class data centers, marking a significant step in Greece's digital transformation and laying the groundwork for a thriving data-driven economy."
