Seaman Found Dead in Cabin on Piraeus-Docked Ferry

Piraeus, Greece – A 60-year-old Greek Chief Engineer was found deceased in his cabin aboard a passenger-car ferry docked at Gate E9 in the central port of Piraeus yesterday morning, according to a statement released by the Zea Port Authority.

Fellow crew members alerted the authorities after discovering the engineer unresponsive. He was subsequently transported by ambulance to Tzaneio General Hospital of Piraeus, where his death was confirmed.

The Zea Port Authority, under the jurisdiction of the Central Port Authority of Piraeus, has launched a preliminary investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. A post-mortem examination has been ordered to determine the cause. The name of the deceased and the vessel have not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
