weather

Greece is bracing for a significant shift in weather starting today, Monday, with heavy rain, thunderstorms, and snow in mountainous regions.

Meteorologist Yannis Kallianos warns of possible hailstorms and strong winds reaching 6-8 Beaufort, with localized gusts up to 9 Beaufort, potentially disrupting sea routes.

Areas Affected

The adverse weather will initially impact Western Greece before spreading to the islands of the Eastern Aegean, the Dodecanese, Thrace, the Cyclades, Crete (both western and southern regions), Attica, Evia, and parts of the Peloponnese. In Attica, strong thunderstorms are expected to pass through in the afternoon.

Christmas Forecast

This year’s Christmas weather calls for umbrellas, as local showers are anticipated on Wednesday, particularly in the eastern and southern mainland. Snowfall is forecasted for mountainous regions, including parts of Evia and Crete. Temperatures will dip slightly, especially in the eastern mainland and the Aegean, adding a winter chill to the festive season.

Residents and travellers are advised to stay updated on weather alerts and prepare for potential disruptions.
