Lanterns of Hope: A Christmas Eve in Athens

Kotzia Square Shines for Christmas Eve Celebrations

The decorated Kotzia Square became the focal point of Athens on Christmas Eve, as a multitude of citizens of all ages and visitors responded to Mayor Haris Doukas's afternoon invitation to send their wishes from there.

The timeless messages of hope and peace, along with 1,500 biodegradable paper lanterns, were accompanied by festive musical selections curated by the city's radio station "Athina 9.84" and producer Aristea Giannou.

"Today, on Christmas Eve, we filled the decorated Kotzia Square with light and music. Hundreds of lanterns carried our wishes into the Athenian sky. Wishing everyone health for next year," Mayor Doukas stated, among other things.
