A cold snap has gripped parts of central and northern Greece, bringing snow and subzero temperatures to mountainous and semi-mountainous regions.
On Christmas day, snowfall blanketed areas such as Grevena and Lailias in Serres, where temperatures plunged below freezing. At popular ski resorts like Kaimaktsalan in Pella and Vassilitsa in Grevena, the mercury dipped to a frosty -4°C.
Authorities have issued advisories for travelers heading to ski resorts and mountainous regions. Police reported that snow chains are mandatory for vehicles traveling to Imathia’s ski resorts, including routes such as Naoussa-Seli, Veria-Seli, and Naoussa to 3-5 Pigadia.
Drivers are also advised to equip their vehicles with snow chains on sections of the old Thessaloniki-Veria-Kozani road, particularly through Kastania, where icy conditions prevail.
Winter sports enthusiasts and residents alike are urged to exercise caution while enjoying the snowy landscapes as the cold weather continues to sweep across the region.
