The Greek government is set to unveil new measures today, December 30, aimed at safeguarding minors on social media platforms.

The planned reforms, which will focus on restricting or regulating internet use for individuals under the age of 15, are expected to be implemented in three phases.

According to early details, the measures will include the activation of parco.gov.gr, a website where parents can access instructions for using parental controls available on most mobile devices.

Another key feature will be the introduction of a Kids Wallet, designed to verify the age of users automatically. The government is also expected to outline plans for legislative initiatives at both the national and European levels, in collaboration with technology and telecommunications companies.

These forthcoming measures are in line with similar steps taken by other countries. For example, Spain has created a special committee to design comprehensive policies protecting minors from online risks, while the European Union requires parental consent for processing personal data for children under 16. In the United States, several states have implemented age verification laws to address these concerns.

The government’s official announcement is anticipated later today, as Greece joins the global conversation about the need to ensure a safer digital environment for children.
