In a recent telephone conversation, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar and his Greek counterpart, George Gerapetritis, discussed the ongoing crises in Syria and Gaza.
Saar, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), revealed that the two leaders addressed the situation in Syria, emphasising the urgent need to protect minority groups such as Kurds, Alawites, and Christians amid the turmoil. He also expressed concerns over Syria’s political future, noting that the new government has not been democratically elected and highlighted alarming reports of elections being postponed for another four years.
On the topic of Gaza, Saar reiterated Israel‘s commitment to securing a deal for hostages held in the region, underscoring the importance of continued efforts to bring peace and stability to the area.
Saar extended an invitation to Minister Gerapetritis to visit Israel in the near future, signaling Israel’s intent to strengthen diplomatic ties with Greece. Both ministers agreed to maintain close communication on these critical issues as the situation in both Syria and Gaza continues to evolve.
