Weather: Storms in the southeastern Aegean on Saturday, sunshine returns Sunday

Greece is bidding farewell to the three-day Epiphany holiday with rain and cloudy skies across most of the country today, Saturday, January 4, 2025. Sporadic showers are expected in the southeast.

However, the weather will improve by evening, ushering in a week of sunshine interspersed with occasional storms.

Today: Southeasterly winds in the southeast Aegean will be 3-5 Beaufort. Elsewhere, winds will initially be west-southwesterly at 3-5 Beaufort, shifting to northerly directions, reaching 6 Beaufort locally in the north. Temperatures will drop slightly in the north, peaking at 10-12°C. Other areas can expect highs of 15-17°C, with the south reaching 18°C. Epiphany celebrations on Monday will see seasonable temperatures.

  • Sunday, January 5, 2025: Cloudy skies with local showers are expected in the Cyclades, Crete, and the Dodecanese, gradually clearing. The rest of the country will see partly cloudy skies, with possible light rain in Sporades and Evia in the morning. Reduced visibility and fog are likely in the evening. Northerly winds will be 3-5 Beaufort, reaching 6 Beaufort locally in the Aegean. Temperatures will drop slightly, with northern regions reaching 9-11°C, other areas 14-16°C, and the south up to 17°C. Local frost is possible in the northern mainland in the morning.
  • Monday, January 6, 2025 (Epiphany): Mostly clear skies across the country. Reduced visibility and fog are possible in the morning. Clouds will develop in the west during the afternoon, with local rain overnight. Winds will initially be northerly at 3-5 Beaufort, shifting to west-southwesterly at the same intensity. Southeast winds up to 6 Beaufort will develop in the northern Ionian Sea overnight. Temperatures will rise slightly, particularly the highs. Local frost is possible in the northern mainland in the morning.
  • Tuesday, January 7, 2025: Partly cloudy skies. Local rain is expected in the west, eastern, and southern Aegean. Showers will intensify in the northwest in the afternoon, with possible sporadic storms. South-southwesterly winds will be 4-5 Beaufort, reaching 6 Beaufort locally in the seas. Temperatures will remain relatively stable.
  • Wednesday, January 8, 2025: Cloudy skies with local rain and sporadic storms are expected in the west, eastern, and southern Aegean. Showers will cease in the west by afternoon and later in other areas. The rest of the country will see partly cloudy skies. Reduced visibility and fog are likely in the evening. South-southwesterly winds will be 3-5 Beaufort, reaching 6 Beaufort locally in the Aegean. Temperatures will rise slightly.
