The Big Bash League is set for a late-season boost with Cricket Australia confirming the availability of its Test stars for the remaining matches. Teenage sensation Sam Konstas will make a welcome return for the injury-hit Sydney Thunder, while several other big names are also set to light up the competition.

Perth Scorchers fans will be thrilled to see Mitch Marsh back in action for his first BBL game in three years, alongside paceman Jhye Richardson, both available for the remainder of the tournament. Beau Webster will join the Melbourne Stars after his recent Sheffield Shield debut. Alex Carey (Adelaide Strikers) and Sean Abbott (Sydney Sixers) will also be available for their respective teams for the rest of the BBL|14 season.

While some stars will feature for the duration, others will have limited availability. Steve Smith will don the magenta for the Sydney Sixers in three matches, starting with a blockbuster clash against the Perth Scorchers at the SCG on January 11th. Brisbane Heat fans will have a brief glimpse of Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne, who will only be available for their team’s final home game on January 16th.

However, several key players will miss the entirety of BBL|14 due to international commitments. Australia’s formidable bowling attack of Pat Cummins (Sydney Thunder), Josh Hazlewood (Sydney Sixers), Mitchell Starc (Sydney Sixers), Nathan Lyon (Melbourne Renegades), and Scott Boland (Melbourne Stars) will be absent, as will star batter Travis Head (Adelaide Strikers). The remaining Test squad members will follow individual management plans to prepare for the upcoming tours of Sri Lanka and a one-off ODI.

This injection of Test talent comes as the BBL enjoys a surge in popularity, with a reported 15% increase in viewership on Seven and 7Plus this summer. The return of Konstas and other key players promises an exciting finish to the BBL|14 season.
