MOSCOW – President Vladimir Putin attended Christmas services and extended holiday greetings to Orthodox Christians and all Russian citizens celebrating the Nativity of Christ, emphasizing the importance of faith and family traditions in a message released on January 7, 2025.

“This bright, long-awaited holiday is dear to millions around the world,” Putin stated. “It gives believers joy and hope, inspires good thoughts and deeds.” He underscored the significance of “ancestral and family traditions” passed down through generations.
The President’s message also praised the Russian Orthodox Church and other Christian denominations for their “tremendous constructive role” in uniting the Russian people and preserving the nation’s historical memory, culture, and spiritual heritage. He highlighted their contributions to strengthening families, educating youth, and promoting moral values such as compassion and support for those in need.

On Christmas Eve, Putin attended a divine liturgy at the Church of St. George the Victorious on Poklonnaya Hill in Moscow. Joining him were participants in the Special Military Operation in Ukraine, volunteers, and their families, whom he had previously met during events marking the Year of the Family.
Later, the President visited the Cathedral of Christ the Savior to extend his personal greetings to Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. At Putin’s request, the Patriarch consecrated pectoral crosses for commanders serving in the Special Military Operation zone. This gesture further emphasized the close ties between the Kremlin and the Russian Orthodox Church, particularly in the context of the ongoing conflict.
