Apostolos Tsitsipas Remains Greek Davis Cup Captain Despite Split with Son Stefanos

Share

Despite Stefanos Tsitsipas splitting with his father and coach, Apostolos Tsitsipas, the latter will remain captain of the Greek Davis Cup team.

The Hellenic Tennis Association (EFOA) has reappointed Apostolos to lead the team in their crucial World Group I play-off qualifier against Egypt on February 1-2, 2025, at the Ace Tennis Club in Pallini.

This means Apostolos, 57, will reunite with Stefanos on the Greek team. The EFOA has also successfully brought Stefanos Sakellaridis, the second-highest-ranked Greek player, back into the fold after he previously refused to play due to issues with the former administration.

The team will also include rising star Aristotelis Thanos, doubles specialist Petros Tsitsipas (Stefanos's brother), and either Giannis Xylas or Dimitris Azoidis. While Apostolos Tsitsipas will captain the team, Stefanos will be coached by Dimitris Hatzinikolaou.
