Nick Kyrgios is out of the Australian Open after losing his first-round matchup to the UK’s Jacob Fearnley in straight sets. The Australian lost the first and third sets in tie-breaks and was defeated 6-3 in the second, resulting in a final score of 7-6, 6-3, 7-6.

This unexpected exit marks a challenging moment for Kyrgios, whose last official victory dates back to the ATP 500 in Tokyo 2022. Despite battling with an abdominal injury, the Australian player was unable to overcome Fearnley's impressive performance on the court.

Nick Kyrgios fears he may not play singles again at the Australian Open given his physical struggles.

Kyrgios will keep open his options but after missing grand slams for two years following wrist surgery, he said it was not enjoyable to play when his body was hurting.

But he still sees himself playing doubles and doing more things on the court.

He said he was fit but his body wasn’t allowing him to play like he wants to.

“Realistically I can’t see myself playing singles here again,” Kyrgios said.

“Taking that in, it was pretty good.

“I knew I had doubles, so I was trying to take everything in tonight. It was nuts.

“My journey is not over.”

Kyrgios also explains he still intends to play at other grand slams this year and in Davis Cup in doubles and he hopes he can “make some noise” at Wimbledon if fully fit.

Meanwhile, Fearnley is celebrating his second Grand Slam victory and will advance to face Arthur Cazaux in the next round. As the tournament progresses, fans will be watching closely to see if he can maintain his momentum.
