The image of Athens Metro stations is undergoing a significant transformation with a large-scale renovation program currently underway. Key stations like "Syntagma" and "Panormou" are receiving aesthetic upgrades, including new electronic screens, repainting, and energy-saving innovations. The renovation is part of a broader five-year plan to improve the overall service and environment of the Athens Metro.
According to a recent announcement from STASY, the central "Syntagma" station, 25 years after its opening, now boasts a notably enhanced look.
The station’s revitalization includes extensive repainting of its surfaces and the installation of new electronic screens at various levels, contributing to its aesthetic appeal and functional upgrade. The "Syntagma" station is also celebrating the holiday season, showcasing a grand Christmas tree that impresses with its size and brightness.
Similar improvements have been made at the "Panormou" station, where pilot photocatalytic paints were applied as part of an innovative solution to improve the indoor environment and reduce energy consumption. Meanwhile, technical work continues on the interior and exterior of the "Chalandri" station.
The first phase of the painting initiative has a budget of €770,000, and a new tender for the expansion of the program, valued at €2 million, is soon to be announced. This is just one aspect of STA's broader strategy. SY aims to upgrade the Athens Metro network over the next five years. The plan includes a series of interventions in key operational and maintenance areas to ensure the continued high quality of service for passengers.
