GCM President Bill Papastergiadis, Vice President Michael Karamitos, Treasurer A/Prof Marinis Pirpiris, Board Member Manuel Tsirmiris, and GCM staff extended their hospitality and engaged in meaningful conversations with Tsitsipas about his strong ties to Melbourne and the local Greek community.
Expressing his excitement to be back in the city, Tsitsipas shared his deep affection for Melbourne, which he has often described as “feeling like home.” The Greek star also reflected on the support he feels from the community, noting, “Their support and cheers from the sidelines give me strength.”
During his visit to the Greek Centre, Tsitsipas made a special promise: he vowed to return to Melbourne in the near future to meet with students from the GCM schools. Passionate about language and education, Tsitsipas highlighted the importance of staying connected to his Greek roots and inspiring the next generation of Greek Australians. This commitment further strengthened his bond with the community, demonstrating his appreciation for their unwavering support.
GCM President Bill Papastergiadis expressed his excitement about Tsitsipas’ visit, saying, “We are thrilled that Stefanos and his team chose the Greek Community Centre for their media interviews and commitments. The Greek Centre is a cultural landmark, and we hope it serves as a welcoming beacon for Greeks worldwide. Stefanos’ genuine interest in our schools’ programs was well received by my colleagues and staff.”
Despite an early exit from the Australian Open, Papastergiadis emphasised that Tsitsipas will always have a second home with the GCM. He added, “We hope to further expand our relationship with Stefanos, particularly through our educational initiatives. This includes potential involvement in our Melbourne University Hellenic Global Diaspora Program.”
