Skaramangas Shipyards has partnered with British marine technology company SubSea Craft to construct and maintain advanced Victa-type mini hybrid submarines in Greece. This collaboration, supported by the British government, aims to introduce cutting-edge maritime technology to the Greek Armed Forces and establish an Innovation Center to advance defense innovation in the region.
On Tuesday, January 14, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed for the domestic construction and maintenance of advanced Victa-type platforms—mini hybrid submarines with cutting-edge capabilities.
Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, CEO of Skaramangas Shipyards, and Camilla Martin, CEO of SubSea Craft, represented their respective organizations in the signing of the agreement, which also benefits from the backing of the British Embassy and government.
This partnership marks an important step forward in Greece's defense technology sector, potentially leading to the introduction of SubSea Craft’s state-of-the-art Victa submarines to the Greek Armed Forces. Renowned for their flexibility, these submarines facilitate the discreet and rapid deployment of personnel and weapons to various coastlines, making them exceptionally suited for complex and high-risk missions.
Additionally, the collaboration will result in the establishment of an Innovation Center within Skaramangas.
This center aims to advance Nikos Dendias, the Minister of Defense's vision for defense innovation. It will focus on the development and testing of both manned and unmanned surface and underwater vehicles, while also fostering international cooperation to address security challenges in the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean.
