This decision follows the recent return of Apostolos Tsitsipas as team captain.
Stefanos Tsitsipas has decided not to play in the Davis Cup for Greece in the upcoming matches against Egypt on February 1-2. Despite initially stating at a press conference during the Australian Open, following his early exit by Alex Mickelsen, that he would join the Greek team for these matches, Tsitsipas has revised his plans.
The Greek tennis star has reportedly informed the Hellenic Tennis Association (EFOA) of his decision to miss the tournament at the Ace Tennis Club. He intends to focus on preparing for the upcoming tournament in Rotterdam, his next competitive commitment after the Australian Open.
As a result, Greece will introduce a new No.1 player in its lineup, Stefanos Sakellaridis. The 20-year-old is currently participating in an ITF tournament in Chennai, India.
This announcement comes shortly after Apostolos Tsitsipas's official return as the team's captain.
