You definitely have to consider visiting Thessaloniki and the surrounding areas in 2025.
Firstly, Northern Greece has a lower cost of food and accommodation in comparison to Athens and the islands.
Also, the city has a very good infrastructure. For example, the international airport is not as loaded as the airports in Crete, Rhodes, Santorini, and Mykonos, but it has many connections with all the main European cities. There is also a new metro and a network of highways to nearby destinations.
During summer, you can easily combine Thessaloniki with Halkidiki and with other destinations, such as Pella (the old capital of Macedonia) and Vergina (the royal Macedonian necropolis), the Pozar hot springs, the cities of Kastoria and Ioannina, and even Meteora.
As its inhabitants claim, there is food supremacy because, in addition to souvlaki, tzatziki, gyros, and lamb chops, you can sample flavors mixed with the Eastern Mediterranean and the Balkans.
There is a lot to visit in Thessaloniki, including museums, castles, old Roman palaces, and a very rich history of 2300 years.
Also, there is probably the biggest ratio of young to old people since Thessaloniki is a city full of universities, providing a vivid and joyful environment. The city has a very active market with new shops opening every day.
So the time is now because, by 2030, Greece's second city could be the next Mykonos, Santorini, or Paros of today.
