A major cyberattack from abroad has targeted Greece's SYZEFXIS public-sector network, causing delays in the response speed of several gov.gr applications. The Greek Ministry of Digital Governance has identified the attack as a Denial-of-Service (DoS) assault and is working to restore full functionality.
The attack, identified as a Denial-of-Service (DoS) assault, has slowed down critical digital services that facilitate interaction between citizens and government agencies. In an official statement, the ministry acknowledged the issue and reassured the public that efforts are underway to resolve the disruptions and restore the SYZEFXIS network to full operational capacity.
“Due to an extensive denial-of-service (DoS) attack from abroad on the entire SYZEFXIS public-sector network, there are problems with the response speed of some gov.gr applications,” the ministry stated. “The problems are being addressed, and every effort is being made to return the entire SYZEFXIS network to fully efficient operation as soon as possible.”
While the ministry has not provided additional details about the attackers or the scale of the damage, the incident highlights the growing vulnerability of critical digital infrastructure to international cyber threats.
Gov.gr serves as a cornerstone of Greece's digital governance, providing access to a wide range of services, from tax declarations to healthcare appointments. The disruption has drawn attention to the importance of enhancing cybersecurity measures to safeguard public services against such attacks in the future.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain patient as technical teams work around the clock to mitigate the impact and ensure the swift restoration of services.
