La Repubblica offers its own "response" to the issue of over-tourism through a travelogue in the Cyclades.
The international media encourages its readers "to leave Mykonos and Santorini to the crowds and to seek out corners of Greece where they can enjoy history and myth in an atmosphere of intense spirituality without crowds, among ancient olive trees, ancient temples, churches, and monasteries."
According to the extensive feature, "Sifnos represents the essence of the Cyclades. Nature, culture, and Christianity are palpable in every square meter. The island has more than 300 scattered chapels and churches, including the chapel of the Seven Martyrs, where the small blue dome merges with the surrounding sea.
Naxos stands out for its genuine natural monuments over 600 years old. Walking here is like immersing yourself in a millennia-old history that "binds" man to the land. At sunset, the ancient rocks of the largest island in the Cyclades create captivating light and shadow plays.
Ios is the timeless place of youthful energy in Greece, evolving into a refined destination of history and culture. The tomb of Homer and the prehistoric settlement of Skarkos attract international interest from travelers of all countries and ages."
The feature published in the Il Venerdi supplement also mentions the uniqueness of Keros and Delos, which continue to captivate with their archaeological finds. Representatives of the Municipalities of Naxos and Minor Cyclades, Ios, and Sifnos who participated in the journalistic mission from the specific media, speak about the data of the next tourist season 2025.
"With an eye on 2025, our efforts are focusing on extending the season. Our narrative, which finds resonance in international media and tourism professionals, has as its focus the evolution of Ios into a new travel experience that combines diving, hiking, cycling, gastronomy, archaeological monuments, cultural events, and beach sports," said Antonis Mettos, President of the Tourism Committee of the Municipality of Ios.
"Our goal is quality tourism. We continuously promote Naxos, highlighting its well-known and unknown aspects of authenticity in a variety of markets, with the aim of attracting travelers with a special interest in history, alternative activities, and the exploration of picturesque villages and nature," added Vangelis Katsaras, Deputy Mayor of Tourism of the Municipality of Naxos and Minor Cyclades.
"Gastronomic wealth, pottery, and traditions will be integral parts of our call for the new season, approaching travel audiences who are not satisfied with just sun and sea, but want to be initiated into the local culture and experience the different," explains Yannis Rafeletos, Deputy Mayor of Tourism of the Municipality of Sifnos.
