Postecoglou confirmed that striker Dominic Solanke will be out for a "few weeks," Brennan Johnson is sidelined for "three to four weeks," and defender Radu Dragusin sustained a head injury during the match at Goodison Park.
“There will be urgency, but it doesn’t need me to say it,” Postecoglou said when asked about potential signings before the end of the month. “Everybody can see that. I’ve no issues with how the club is going about it—they are working hard and trying to find solutions. These players need help, that is for sure, and hopefully, over the next 10 days or so, we’ll find a solution. It’s really tricky, we’re not the only ones in the market. The club is trying hard.”
Tottenham’s latest setback came after a poor first-half performance against Everton, where they found themselves 3-0 down by the break, courtesy of goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Iliman Ndiaye, and an own goal from Archie Gray.
"We gave ourselves a mountain to climb," Postecoglou reflected. "We couldn’t really take control of the game. We struggled to get any traction with and without the ball. We are pretty stretched. We literally had 11 players fit enough to start the game. We weren’t in total control of our organisation. Everton capitalised on that, and we paid the price for it."
Despite late goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison, the defeat added to the pressure on the Spurs manager. “I have never played the victim,” Postecoglou remarked. “The responsibility lies with me to get this right. I still have to steer us through, and if I start worrying about myself and the cards I’ve been dealt, it’s a dereliction of my duty. It is up to me to get us out of it, and I have to be good enough to do that."
Looking ahead, Postecoglou remained optimistic: “There is plenty to play for. The club, our fans, our season. We are still in four competitions this season—the semi-final of the Carabao Cup, a couple of big European games coming up, and we’re still in the FA Cup. Our league position is not great to say the least. We need to improve that, and eventually, our players will come back. It is a significant talent that will return.”
For Everton manager David Moyes, the victory was crucial, securing his first win since returning to the club. “Really pleased,” Moyes said. “We played ever so well in the first half, scored three, and could’ve scored a couple more. I’m really pleased with the three points, and it didn’t matter how we played, winning was the big thing for us today. But we’ve only won one. I’m not in here celebrating.”
