The 39-year-old Cameroonian who was allegedly the driver of the vehicle seized in connection with the shooting incident in Potamia which fatally injured a 24-year-old Pakistani, was brought before the Nicosia District Court, Sigma Live reported.
As reported on Omega's ENIMEROSI TORA show, the 39-year-old allegedly admitted that he transported the 24-year-old Pakistani to the Akropoli, where he was later found dead. Initially, however, he said he left the 24-year-old in old Nicosia. However, he later recanted.
At the same time, as reported in the show, the Cameroonian claimed that the Pakistani had given him 500 euros to transport him to the free areas. He also claimed that during his transfer from Potamia to Akropoli, the 24-year-old was still alive in the car.
However, the court ordered his eight-day detention on Thursday.
The case of the 24-year-old from Pakistan is being reported in the Turkish Cypriot press
The front page of Yeni Bakış was the 3 Turkish Cypriots who are wanted by the Cypriot Police as suspects for their involvement in the murder of the 24-year-old Pakistani, with the newspaper publishing photos of the three and writing that while the Greek Cypriot media are among the first to highlight the issue, no one in the occupied territories has made a statement.
The article notes that a man from Cameroon has been arrested in connection with the case and that the three Turkish Cypriots, father and sons, reside in Potamia.
Avroupa also presents the issue as a secondary issue on its front page today, writing that four people are wanted, including the three Turkish Cypriots. It reports that Coşkun Alaslan, one of the three, stated that he did not know the Pakistani young man.
The newspaper notes that so far, there has been no request from the Greek Cypriot side to the Turkish Cypriot side for the extradition of the three.
Coşkun Alaslan, 31, told Yenidüzen that he did not know the Pakistani and that on January 6, when the incident occurred, he was in Nicosia. He claimed that the Cyprus Police had targeted him.
"This is a shameful accusation. If I was guilty, the police would have known me, and they would have taken me from the house," he said.
