Mass tourism from Russia to Greece is a thing of the past, stressed the Russian Ambassador to Greece, Andrey Maslov, highlighting that in 2013, about 1.3 million Russians visited Greece and about 800,000 Russians annually visit the country on average.
“As for mass tourism from Russia to Greece, this is a thing of the past, it has fallen sharply,” said the ambassador.
He cited statistics that show that only 15,000 Russians visited Greece over a ten-month period in 2024.
“According to the calculations of Greek industry experts, every year without Russian tourists, Greece loses about a billion euros; many local industries have lost profits, for example, fur production,” said the diplomat.
Tourism experts note the interest of Russians in vacationing in Greek luxury resorts, he said.
“But this, as you understand, has nothing to do with mass tourism,” the ambassador noted.
Russia is ready for constructive cooperation with Greece in the UN Security Council
Moscow is ready for constructive cooperation with Greece in the UN Security Council, said Maslov following Greece's election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the period 2025-2026.
"As was once emphasised in the corresponding statement of our Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we expect that the Greek side, during its rotation in the UN Security Council, will give priority to the common interests of maintaining international peace and security and will effectively contribute to addressing modern challenges and threats," he said.
"Our country is ready for constructive cooperation on such a basis," the ambassador added.
